On this episode of the Thinking Christianly podcast, we have the privilege of discussing J.P.’s newly released book, A Simple Guide to Experience Miracles. Jordan, J.P., and Stan share stories from their lives and the lives of others and evaluate whether or not the experience is a miracle or merely a coincidence. You will be encouraged and challenged by this conversation about God’s work in our day-to-day lives!
In this podcast we discuss:
- The five types of miracles
- How to evaluate supernatural experiences with faith and reason
- Stories of God at work
- Why we should talk with others about how God is revealing Himself
- What it means to be “certain” and how this impacts our faith
- The important distinction between “belief” and “knowledge”

It seems like a lot of things popular in the 70’s have made a comeback–racial riots, (CRT)sexual revolution, (transgenderism) radical politics, (wokeism) abortion, (Supreme Court) the occult, (Wicca explosion) rampant drugs, Immigration. (I was a teen raised just south of Berkeley in the 60-70’s) Read recently that witchcraft was the number one search on TikTok.
Subject Considerations:
1. Resurgence of the Occult/Demonic: It seems that many Evangelicals are uncertain (as with miracles) what to do with the demonic. I think emerging adults however are interested in it. (saw a recent youtube where a Roman Catholic attracted an audience of 2,000 students at Berkeley on the subject of the demonic.)
3. Intellectualism. (Paul Johnson/Thomas Sowell address its potent influence) It seems that using snappy slogans from intellectuals are having a resurgence on social media.
Aware of (and read) JP’s book on scientism.
Maybe address growing influencers such as Harari (Sapiens, etc.) and Max Tegmark Life 3.0 and his non-profit.
Also, the Spiritual Movement coming out of Silicon Valley. Example: Salesforce Convention is the largest in the world. (200,000) Provide seminars with all kinds of non-god/spiritualism. Douglas Murray has done well to expose their media power as well as Musk recently.
4. Donald Hoffman’s The Case Against Reality. What is interesting is there seems to be at least some mathematics behind the claim: spacetime is doomed.” The material world is real, but what we see (for evolutionary purposes) as material reality is an interface.
At least he’s giving an alternative to the adage that everything must align with the laws of physics.
So there’s my four suggestions. Thanks for your ministry.
(Just finished a DMin at Talbot on What forms of evangelism are effectively reaching emerging adults.)
Thanks for your suggestions, Jon. We will certainly consider these important topics!
